Psychoeducational Assessments for students with suspected learning Disabilities/ADHD or for "gifted" children

•Research Based Treatments for Learning Disabilities or ADHD/ADD

Psychoeducational Assessments

Psychoeducational assessment refers to set of tests used to evaluate  various psychological and intellectual processes that may be impacting one's ability to perform at the optimal level. It involves administering both psychological, such as intelligence tests, and educational, such as reading or math tests and is available to children and adults. Psychoeducational assessment can be used to study many different types of problems such as  attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD /ADD), learning disabilities, and  intelligence/gifted placement.  Our psycho educational assessment is divided into 4 categories that test:

  1. Intelligence

  2. Achievement in certain subjects such as mathematics or reading

  3. Visual/motor integration, and

  4. Coping skills.

Learning Disability or AHD can be diagnosed only after such assessment tests that must be conducted by licensed clinician such as a person with a Ph.D. in psychology. Don’t be fooled by so called screening tests that are offered by many tutoring services! These tests can be conducted with very little training and can offer no diagnoses.  Psycho educational assessment gives much more detailed information about student’s strengths and weaknesses than tests typically conducted at school or average tutoring center. These assessments can tell us why a student is struggling at school, or inform us that a student would benefit from a “gifted curriculum”.

Intervention Programs

The decision to apply a certain intervention program, or combination of them, is made based on the assessment results, and student’s needs. We also take into account motivational issues, since many intervention programs require weeks of commitment. The following list is a sample of intervention programs currently in use at the Brain Station Tutoring Services.
